<image:title>Paws N Play Blog and Training Tips - Dog Play - What’s Appropriate & What’s Not - Good Dog Play</image:title>
<image:caption>You don’t need to interrupt this play. The dogs are monitoring themselves. Play is balanced. There is a lot of give-and-take. Both dogs are clearly having fun. Dogs have loose, relaxed bodies, and their movements are silly and inefficient-looking. Chase games exhibit a sense of sharing. But, if one dog is being chased into hiding or is becoming defensive, interrupt the play. Both dogs are making friendly play gestures. These include play bows, turning and hitting with the hips and both dogs stopping when things get too rough.</image:caption>

<image:title>Paws N Play Blog and Training Tips - Dog Play - What’s Appropriate & What’s Not</image:title>
<image:caption>This “play” is not play at all; it is aggressive behavior and must always be stopped. After you intervene you have a good opportunity to play one-on-one with your dog while he settles down. Rude behaviors are: Neck biting and collar grabbing. Excessive barking and harassing another dog. Rude puppies often do this relentlessly at adult dogs that do not want to play. Body slamming. This is only fun for the slammer. Pinning. Bull breeds do this routinely, but others do it, too. Mounting other dogs. Both males and females do this and it is almost guaranteed to start a fight. Snapping. A dog that is scared or aggravated may snap; so may a dog that is guarding a toy or a bone. Standing in a “T” position (head over another dog’s shoulders). This is never play; it is always a challenge. Don’t let it happen at all. Ganging up. Two or more dogs ganging up on one.</image:caption>

<image:title>Agility Training - It all begins with a jump.</image:title>
<image:caption>Agility is a an official AKC and USDAA competitive dog sport where you teach your dog to master a variety of obstacles such as A-frames, Teeters, Tunnels, Jumps, Pause Tables, Weaves, and many many more. You will work with your dog to teach him to zip through tunnels, over A-frames, in and out of weave poles. But here at Paws N Play, we focus more on the benefits of agility rather than competition. Agility is a great way to have fun with your dog while: Enforcing obedience commands such as sit, come, and stay Building your dog’s self confidence & improving your bond with your dog Exercising your dog both mentally and physically Provides an excellent environment for socialization with people and other dogs We teach you to use a variety of positive reward techniques that includes treats and toys to make learning the obstacles a good experience for all. You will see your dog’s confidence level significantly increase as you progress through the class(s).</image:caption>

<image:title>Trainer - Michelle Jackson</image:title>
<image:caption>Journey to Become a Dog Trainer It all started with a dog named Shooter back in the late 90’s. I adopted Shooter when he was 1 year old and had only had 1 family before me. Shortly after adopting him, I realized that he had a lot of problems with people. At that time I was just like anyone else who adopted a dog from a rescue. Back then the only training techniques I knew about was choke chain training. The problem is every time I corrected him with the choke collar he would turn around and bite me. This happened several times so after about a month, I called the rescue and told them I could no longer keep him. He was too dangerous. They said ok, but since he has a bite history now, they will euthanize him. I knew he wasn’t that bad, he was just being triggered by what I was doing. So I started private lessons with a trainer using positive reinforcement and Shooter responded very well. As I continued to work with Shooter I was amazed at his transformation. And this is what inspired me to become a dog trainer! Over the years, Shooter demonstrated many different problem behaviors - First he didn’t like people, then he had an incident at the bark park then he didn’t like other dogs. However, he was super smart and over the 16 years that I had him, I taught him so many tricks, obedience, and got him into agility. However the real story is that over that 16 years, he taught me! I learned so much from Shooter. Not many people can say that about their dog. I am every grateful for investing in Shooter as he helped me become the person I wanted to be, patient, hard working, and a problem solver. Shooter lived to be 17 years old and I treasure every day that I had with him!
